Animal Diversity Web

If you haven’t already explored this website, you’ve been missing out!  Animal Diversity Web is an online “encyclopedia for exploring biodiversity” created and maintained by the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology.

The main feature of this expansive site is articles on animal species, most with pictures, some with sounds, and ALL with detailed classification for your taxonomy lessons – from kingdom Animalia down through genus and species.  Each level is clickable, linking to articles on each family, order, and class.  This makes it an invaluable tool for exploring related species and discussing classification in detail.

Also on the site are resources for college instructors, a glossary, a collection of frog calls, and labeled pictures of mammal anatomy.

If you use this site in your curriculum – or just love to explore it – leave a little feedback below – thanks!
