Atmosphere lessons by offers a helpful set of online text-based lessons covering all aspects of the Earth’s atmosphere:

  • all about air
  • composition of air
  • how air affects weather
  • why the sky is blue
  • layers of the atmosphere
  • atmospheric pressure
  • gases and water
  • weather and climate

Each section is approximately 600 to 1000 words in length, broken into paragraphs with pictures (with a single ad section near the middle).

This learning module consists of 14 sections or “lessons” – 14 web pages – and seems to be most appropriate for grades 3 to 6.

There are simple experiments, demonstrations, and diagrams throughout the text, and the writing is both informative and interesting.

These atmosphere lessons would make a good introductory or review reading (or break into 2 or 3 readings) for home or private schools, or for supplemental reading for public school classes.

There are printable PDF worksheets on this site, but they are grouped into broad categories such as “geography” and “geology” without any further descriptions for each of the many separate files.
